Pillowtex Corporation, a Leading Marketer & Producer of Home Fashion Products, Selects Two Richmond Companies for Comprehensive Transportation Management Solutions
October 21, 2002 - RICHMOND, VA and KANNAPOLIS, NC – Two Richmond companies, Shippers Commonwealth & Riverside Logistics, have been awarded new business by Pillowtex Corporation, one of America’s leading marketers and producers of household textiles such as towels, sheets, blankets, and decorative bedroom and bath accessories under renowned Cannon®, Fieldcrest®, Royal Velvet®, Charisma®, and private label brands.
Shippers Commonwealth, the leading provider of automated Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and full managed services, has been selected to provide Inbound Consolidation and TMS Program to automate Pillowtex’s inbound freight management operations. Under this arrangement, Shippers Commonwealth will provide optimal load consolidation and execution systems as Application Service Provider (ASP) for Pillowtex to further reduce cost and improve service, managed from Pillowtex headquarters in Kannapolis, NC. Shippers Commonwealth will open an office in Charlotte, NC to provide on-site managed service personnel to assist the Pillowtex team in setup and daily operation of the computer-based optimization and execution program.
Riverside Logistics, a peer company to Shippers Commonwealth, will now provide freight claims services for Pillowtex, in addition to freight audit and payment, which Riverside Logistics has conducted for Pillowtex since 1996. As the company’s claim processor, Riverside Logistics will work with the various freight carriers that Pillowtex uses to move its product to make sure that claims for lost or damaged goods are processed properly and on time to ensure payment.
The Shippers Commonwealth TMS is powered by RedPrairie, formerly McHugh Software, as marquee provider of TMS solutions to Fortune 1000, including such companies as Nestle, Eveready, and Johns Manville, among many others.
