North American Salt Expands New Transportation Management System with Shippers Commonwealth
April 5, 2004 - Richmond VA - For Immediate Release: North American Salt Company (NASC) subsidiary of Compass Minerals International, Inc. (NYSE: CMP) and the largest producer of rock, or highway deicing, salt in North America and the United Kingdom, has successfully launched production use of the state-of-the-art Transportation Management System ("TMS") from Shippers Commonwealth, the leading TMS solutions provider as of first quarter 2004, and is now rapidly expanding the program throughout its North American sites.
The new TMS is now in initial production use for inaugurating optimal shipment planning and automated execution of outbound shipments, operating from NASC corporate headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas. It has been sucessfully launched for automated shipment management for NASC's operations in Hersey MI, Lyons KS, and Ogden UT, and is being expanded to seven (7) regional load centers throughout the U.S. and Canada, with over forty (40) ship sites under management throughout the NASC North American network. The transportation system for NASC from Shippers Commonwealth is fully integrated into NASC enterprise systems, and has been implemented to provide real time collaboration with carriers and online Web visibility for NASC customer service.
The TMS provides NASC with a improved responsiveness in delivery service to meet customer needs, and competitive advantage in the salt and mineral industry, utilizing optimal carrier and mode selection with electronic commerce and invoiceless pay. The TMS program thus enables NASC to further enhance service to its customers - on-time, defect free, and at lowest landed cost.
