Alcoa Reynolds FoodService Packaging Goes Live At New Mixing Center With Shippers Commonwealth TMS
April 19, 2004 - Richmond VA - For Immediate Release: Alcoa's Reynolds FoodService Packaging (Alcoa RFP), a major business unit fo Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA), has successfully launched its new, start-of-the-art mixing center in Shephardsville KY with the Shippers Commonwealth Transportation Management System (TMS) as integral and integrated part of its operations and automation program for this major new distribution center.
The Shippers Commonwealth TMS is fully integrated to existing Alcoa systems and to the advanced warehouse management systems provided by Genco, the 3PL for Alcoa RFP at this facility. This TMS provides for optimal shipment planning including mode selection and routing, as well as advanced load building for multi-stop TLs and dynamic pool distribution for the new mixing center program. The Alcoa RFP mixing center is part of a major distribution network re-engineering and consolidation program, with plans to expand this TMS solution to the new Visalia CA mixing center serving the Western U.S., coming online next quarter. The TMS program, handling TL, LTL, multi-stops and pools for outbounds, and expandable to inbounds, also provides an advanced Digital Tracker Web shipment visibility and tracking portal for use by Alcoa customer service and sales personnel.
"We are very pleased with our selection of Shippers Commonwealth as our core solutions provider for automated shipment optimization and control systems", states Diego Reyes, Vice President - Logistics for Alcoa RFP, adding that "their team worked with us in design, ROI modeling, and implementation every step of the way, in a complex and rapid deployment program, to provide a high return program targeting 15% freight cost reduction plus enhanced efficiency and service for our valued customers".
Since mid-2003, the Shippers Commonwealth TMS solution program has been successfully deployed for automated load building and optimized shipment planning at many sites within Alcoa, including at Alcoa Home Exteriors, Alcoa Presto Products, Alcoa Mills Products (2 sites to date); Alcoa Engineered Products, and Alcoa RFP, with implementations in process or planned for many other business units and sites throughout the Alcoa organization.
Robert Shagawat, President & CEO of Shippers Commonwealth states that "the Alcoa RFP program as engineered and directed by Diego Reyes and his team represents a quantum leap in logistics and transportation planning optimization and dynamic execution, serving as a "best practice" model for the global packaging industry", adding that "we are privileged and proud to have Alcoa RFP as an esteemed client for our TMS program".
